Astor of Hever School is a small but very friendly school with a warm family atmosphere situated on the Oakwood Park campus in the south west of Maidstone . It is an all-ability school and, as such, we welcome students of all abilities. We are a specialist sports college and have excellent sporting facilities. The school has also benefitted from a recently completed new building programme with a new state of the art hall and drama facilities and a new Mathematics building.
We were delighted that in July 2010, Ofsted declared that we were a “ good school with several outstanding features” . The inspectors said “the school provides high quality support and guidance and care for its students” and “ the leadership's ambition for drive and improvement have ensured a rapid pace of change”. They also found that the way our students get on with each other and feel safe and happy at school was also outstanding, commenting that the “students show an outstanding understanding of their own and others safety and of moral issues”. You can find a link to a full copy of the report on this site.
The school has a thriving Sixth Form and these students act as leaders in the three school learning communities (houses). Every student belongs to one of these and they help to form close bonds and very good staff student relationships and excellent channels of communication with parents.
The school has an innovative curriculum which allows all students to succeed and is sufficiently flexible to allow them a wide choice of subjects. All students are seated by ability for all subjects from Year 7.
The school's examination performance is now one of the most improved in Kent and we are expecting our best ever GCSE results next week. This comes on top of the best ever A level results for the school which saw the average point score per student increased to 862.
We are proud of our school and its achievements and welcome visits from prospective parents and students . Our Open Evening is on Tuesday September 21 between 6.00 – 8.00pm and our Open morning on Thursday 23 September between 9.00- 11.00am. We look forward to meeting you.
